Humor Incorporated If you consider yourself the house humorist, the office standup comedian or just one who makes others laugh - incorporate your gift into your poetry. Humor writing is as simple as replacing a common word such as curtain with a more uncommon statement - window treatment. The word, bag, isn't exactly hysterical but the word, satchel, has a lot more going for it. Take one of your existing poems and change a few words. Synonyms can give your piece a humorist twist or can initiate a motivational surge to commence with a new work.. If you create limericks, metered rhyme or free verse, you may expand your options with this exercise. Avenues of Revenue Increasing your income as a poet has to begin with creative endeavors. Search within yourself. What do you like? What outlets are available for the words of a poet? Additional revenue is what motivates, is a measure of success, and keeps the lights burning bright - in more ways than one.
