Genres Genres — A category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, marked by a distinctive style, form, or content. Genres in literature can include poetry, fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi, romance, short story, novels, children’s literature, novella, religious works, technical works, mystery writing, screen plays, inspirational, westerns and many more. Writers tend to pursue one particular genre but are not regulated to stay with the same one forever. A short story can very well be turned into a one act play or a novel. A high interest area may send your writing in the direction of sci-fi, in the form of poetry and novellas. Your imagination and inspirations are going to lead you into a specific genre. If you are interested in facts and details, non-fiction and technical writing may be of interest. There are many markets and needs for each genre. Did you ever think about who writes the booklet of directions that arrive with a new VCR? Someone had to write them. If you like high pace, deadlines and work well under pressure, a journalist position or editor’s desk may be for you. You never have to fall strictly into one genre or another, but it is nice to know which one your work falls into when you are asked! WriteInSpace.com© copyright 2002 All rights reserved |
